Marshall's New Play Place

Caleb put this together last weekend!

It is a nice alternative to the bouncy seat and the bumbo seat!
Marshall digs it too...
for about 5-10 minutes anyway!!!

Of course Mia had to get in on the photo action!
She thinks this picture of her sneaking Dora into the shot is just hilarious!
Personally I think Dora is a bit creepy!

I had to throw in this pretty picture of my blue eyed girl!
This is her newest picture face.
The closed mouth, coy smile!
Where she learned this one I don't know!
I sure do love that face though!

A post about hair

My sweet boy has lost almost all of his baby hair.

Remember his faux hawk?
This is all that is left of it!
Just a few long, crazy hairs towards the back of his head that stick straight up!
 and his embarrassing bald spot?
All gone and replaced with new big kid hair!
His new hair growth feels thicker and more coarse.
I think he got his daddy's luscious locks!

And Mia is sportin' a new look too!
She really wants to let her hair and bangs grow long.
We have tried in the past, but she won't let me do anything with it so we always end up cutting it.
This time she is into using hair "product" so I am able to keep her bangs out of her face!
We will see how long this lasts!

As for me...
Postpartum hair loss is in FULL swing!
GAH!
This is just from today!
It comes out in clumps.
And is all over my house!
It is a little alarming really.
When will it end?!?!
I don't know,
but I hope I have some hair left when it is over!

So busy!

Man I have had a very hectic few weeks!
This new job is so amazing! I love it!
But...I went from working 32hrs in 3 days to working 40hrs in 3 days!
Then throw in all the extra orientation days and you have one whipped mama!
I'm done with the extra stuff for a while and look forward to settling in to my new schedule and routine.
Last week I started training in the pediatric hospice unit, something I would have said no way to a couple months ago.
But man, what an amazing privilege to meet these kids and their families!
Really helps put life into perspective and makes my tough mommy days look like heaven!
Both kids are adjusting to the new schedule.
It's been a bit rough for them to have mommy gone more.
Last week I had to work Monday-Thursday and then Sat and Sun!
Caleb took the week off to be with the kids.
He was super Daddy!
He did such a great job and I think it was good for him and the kids!
We are so lucky to have him for our husband and daddy!

Here are some random pics I have taken over the last couple of weeks!

Happy Mother's Day!

To me!

So glad I am a mom.
And so thankful for my 2 littles!

4 months old!!!

My sweet boy is 4 months old today
He is just the cutest thing ever!
He is a pretty good kid too
He has been sleeping thru the night for about 3 weeks now!
I put him to bed at around 7:30pm and he wakes up at 6:00am!
He loves to put things in his mouth, especially his whole hand
He is drooling like mad. (please no teeth for a while!)
Recently he discovered his voice and is "talking" up a storm
He is quite ticklish
I love to tickle him and hear his precious giggle!
I could squeeze his awesome thighs all day long!
We sure do love this kid and look forward to what this month brings us!

The Storm

Our house was hit by something major yesterday afternoon.
I swear it was a tornado!
I have lived here for 18 years.
I've experienced microbursts, haboobs, dust storms and many monsoons.
This was something different!
We were sitting there expecting a dust storm, and as it hit I knew something was wrong.
The sound was like none that I have heard before.
First I saw a huge tree fall over into our yard,
then when I saw our large BBQ grill be picked up and blown across our yard I grabbed my baby (Caleb grabbed Mia) and ran to the opposite side of the house.
It was over in only a few seconds, and the damage was severe.
Poor Mia was crying and really freaked out.
We were all pretty shaken up, but nobody was hurt.
We calmed Mia down and then went outside to survey the damage.
Here are some pictures of the aftermath!

Our patio furniture was blown into a pile by the back door

The view from outside our wall
All of the debris that was strewn around
(we lost so many roof tiles, they were shattered all over the place)

The grill that I saw fly through the air!

 Our swimming pool.
Full of patio furniture and roof tiles!
I was on the phone with the insurance company right away.
Caleb went into the attic to see how bad the damage was, we could see our roof tiles everywhere!
Unfortunately he could see day light.
Not good.
We had major holes in our roof!
We put buckets up there and Caleb did some temporary fixes until we could really check things out the next day.

In the  morning we went outside and started the clean-up process.

Mia felt very proud that she was able to help clean up.
She kept saying "This is really bad Mom."
Despite my protests, Caleb got on the roof to see what it looked like in the light of day...
Here is some of what he saw

Not good!

It is going to be a while before things get put back together here.
Let's hope this isn't a precursor to an extra active monsoon season!

***A few days later on the news I heard the weather man say that what we had were called "Gust-nados" (pretty sure he made that word up!). But he said that essentially we were hit by a major dust devil. The only difference between that and a tornado was that tornados start in the clouds and come down to the ground and what we had started on the ground and worked it's way up into a funnel cloud.Whatever you call it, it stinks and sure did a lot of damage to our home and neighborhood!

Slip n' Slide

When I found this Little Mermaid Slip n' Slide at the end of the season last year on clearance for like $3,
I knew I had to buy it!
Ariel is Mia's favorite after all!

We set it up today for the first time and my girl had loads of fun!

I call this one "How you doin'?"

I saw this on FB today and it brought tears to my eyes.
I will do this for you mama!
I love you so!
Thanks for being my mom!

  • Letter from a Mother to a Daughter: "My dear girl, the day you see I’m getting ...old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through. If when we talk, I repeat the same thing a thousand times, don’t interrupt to say: “You said the same thing a minute ago”... Just listen, please. Try to remember the times when you were little and I would read the same story night after night until you would fall asleep. When I don’t want to take a bath, don’t be mad and don’t embarrass me. Remember when I had to run after you making excuses and trying to get you to take a shower when you were just a girl? When you see how ignorant I am when it comes to new technology, give me the time to learn and don’t look at me that way... remember, honey, I patiently taught you how to do many things like eating appropriately, getting dressed, combing your hair and dealing with life’s issues every day... the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through. If I occasionaly lose track of what we’re talking about, give me the time to remember, and if I can’t, don’t be nervous, impatient or arrogant. Just know in your heart that the most important thing for me is to be with you. And when my old, tired legs don’t let me move as quickly as before, give me your hand the same way that I offered mine to you when you first walked. When those days come, don’t feel sad... just be with me, and understand me while I get to the end of my life with love. I’ll cherish and thank you for the gift of time and joy we shared. With a big smile and the huge love I’ve always had for you, I just want to say, I love you... my darling daughter. "
